ArcGIS Mission Responder users must sign in to ArcGIS Enterprise before they can access their missions (see Access ArcGIS Mission Responder for details). After signing in to Responder, you can access the Responder Settings screen by tapping your avatar in the upper right corner of the screen.
The Responder Settings screen contains information about your version of Responder and about ArcGIS Mission as a whole. It includes settings that allow you to change how you and your device interact with the mission.
You can find the following on the Responder Settings screen:
- User name and avatar
- Sign out
- Dark Mode
- Location settings
- Notification Settings
- Third-party sensor settings
- About Mission Responder
- Web help
- View Portal QR Code
- Troubleshooting
Note:
The default options are recommended for most users. It is recommended that you do not change them without direct instruction from your organization or administrator. Doing so may impair Responder functionality.
Connection status
Also displayed with your profile icon is your connection status. ArcGIS Mission Responder users can be in one of three statuses:
- Active—The user is connected to the mission and actively looking at the map screen.
- Away—The user is connected to the mission but is not actively looking at the map screen.
- Disconnected—The user is not connected to the mission.
User name
This displays your name and the username assigned to you in your ArcGIS Enterprise organization.
Sign out
The Sign out option on the settings page is the only place you can sign out of Responder. Signing out closes your active mission and returns you to the home screen. However, your portal URL is stored and can be selected again for future sessions.
Dark Mode
Dark mode is available for users who want or need to reduce their screen brightness. Dark mode affects all of the Responder screens and tools but it does not affect the mission map itself.
To activate or deactivate dark mode, turn the toggle button on or off.
Location settings
The Location settings page allows you to change your location reporting strategy. Different setting swill optimize battery life, data storage and improve location quality when enabled.
The following reporting strategies are available:
- Optimized App Performance—This option creates the optimum reporting interval for the Responder device saving battery life and data storage.
- Manual Reporting Interval—This option allows a user to set a reporting interval in seconds, minutes or hours by typing in a value and tapping the desired time measurement in the drop-down menu.
These settings can affect battery life and server functionality under certain circumstances.
Notification Settings
Mission members on responder devices are notified when there are changes or message traffic pertaining to a mission including chat, material, report, or task updates as well as member and team related changes. Mission Responders can determine which mission related notifications they receive on their mobile devices.
To make notification setting changes, it is best to access the settings while not actively involved in a mission. Adjusting settings while actively in a mission will limit what you are allowed to change based on that missions’ capabilities.
To access and change settings complete the following steps:
- Open the Responder Settings screen.
- Tap Notifications.
- Enable or disable the notifications you wish to receive or ignore on the following:
- Chats
- Tasks
- Reports
- Members and Teams
- Materials
- Once complete, tap Notifications to return to settings menu.
Third-party sensor settings
ArcGIS Mission Responder can integrate with third-party hardware to enhance app functionality, including enabling mesh networking and sensor reports. Those integrations are listed and enabled here.
Each device that can be connected to the Responder app will be listed, as will the status of any connections that have been established previously. To connect to a third-party device for use with ArcGIS Mission Responder, complete the following steps:
- Open the Responder Settings screen.
- Ensure Bluetooth permissions have been granted.
- Ensure the third-party device is turned on.
- Tap Connect next to the device you want to enable.
There may be a physical interaction with the third-party device required to ensure the connection is established. If you must interact with the device, the app will inform you of what action needs to be taken.
If the connection is successfully established, a message informs you that the device was connected successfully. If a connection could not be established, an error message appears.
If, while the third-party device is enabled, the app loses connection to the device, a message informs you that the connection was lost. The app will automatically attempt to reconnect to the device until a connection is reestablished or you unpair it from the app.
To unpair a third-party device, complete the following steps:
- Open the Responder Settings screen.
- Tap Forget next to the device you want to unpair.
A dialog box appears, asking you to confirm your choice.
- Tap Confirm.
A message informs you that the device was unpaired.
About ArcGIS Mission Responder
Tap this page to display detailed information about ArcGIS Mission Responder, including the app's version number, build, and other information. You can also provide feedback about the app.
Web help
Tap the Web help tool to open a link to the product documentation from your mobile device.
View Portal QR Code
ArcGIS Mission Responder can use the device's QR code scanner to access the portal quickly and efficiently. Access to the scanner is embedded in the ArcGIS Mission Responder portal login screen, and the codes, which are generated either in ArcGIS Mission Manager or by other Responder users, allow users to skip the portal login process and go straight to entering their user credentials.
Note:
This workflow assumes that the user already has access to an appropriate QR code.
- Open the ArcGIS Mission Responder app.
- Tap Sign in with ArcGIS Enterprise.
- Tap Scan QR Code.
If this is the first time using the QR code scanner, you will have to grant permission for the app to access it.
- Scan the QR code you have available.
- Enter your user credentials to access the portal.
If you have already signed in and want to access another portal with a QR code, you must first sign out and begin the process at step 2.
Access the portal QR code
- Tap to open the Responder Settings screen.
- Tap View Portal QR code.
From this screen, you can display the QR code to other Responder users or copy the portal URL to the device to share it.
Having access to the portal QR code and URL from inside the app allows Responder users to share the URL to others quickly and easily. This can be especially important in situations in which a large number of mission members are coming and going throughout the life of the mission.
Troubleshooting
If, while using the Responder app, a user experiences an issue with performance, they can now enable logs to be captured of device operation. These logs, once enabled, are designed to capture pertinent information such as connection, operation state, screen status, and other issues. This function is designed to make troubleshooting easier in the event of a crash. Logs can then be viewed locally on the device and submitted should an incident need to be submitted. Once enabled, logs will be automatically deleted after seven days. To gain access to the logging feature and functionality complete the following steps:
- Tap to open the Responder Settings.
- Tap Troubleshooting.
- Turn on Logging.
- Retry the workflow in which users were experiencing issues.
- Once the issue has been replicated, send the logs to Esri Tech support.
- Users can view logs locally by clicking View Logs on iOS or Download Files on Android.
Landscape mode
Landscape mode was designed to increase map visibility and spatial awareness, and is available for users who want or need to work in a different orientation. Landscape mode affects all the local Responder screens and tools but does not affect others users' experiences. To enable or disable landscape mode, rotate the device to the desired orientation.
Note:
Landscape mode is available on Android and iOS devices. When switching between portrait and landscape mode, you are unable to lock the device into landscape mode.
