If you installed a base deployment using ArcGIS Enterprise Builder, you can upgrade the base deployment to ArcGIS Enterprise 11.4 using the builder. This is a way to upgrade your deployment using the configuration wizard. All other ArcGIS Enterprise deployments need to be upgraded by individual software components.
When upgrading by individual software components, ensure that the version of the ArcGIS Enterprise portal matches the versions of any Raster Analytics sites and Image Hosting sites. To learn about the exceptions that support a federated server site at a prior version to the portal, see Federate an ArcGIS Server with your portal.
Upgrading directly to ArcGIS Enterprise 11.4 from version 10.7 or 10.7.1 is not supported. To upgrade ArcGIS Enterprise 10.7 or 10.7.1, first upgrade it to an interim version (10.8.x - 11.3) and then upgrade that version to 11.4.
Similarly, upgrading directly to ArcGIS Enterprise 11.4 from version 10.6.1 or earlier is not supported. To upgrade ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6.1 or earlier, first upgrade it to an interim version (10.8.x - 10.9.x) and then upgrade that version to 11.4. Read the upgrade documentation for the interim version to confirm direct upgrades are supported for the ArcGIS Enterprise version you start with.
Upgrade an ArcGIS Enterprise deployment
Running the 11.4 setups will automatically upgrade your ArcGIS Enterprise software components to 11.4. There is no need to obtain and install each previously released version in sequence or to uninstall any of your software components.
- Obtain your new 11.4 setup and authorization files from My Esri.
- Back up the following information:
- In your ArcGIS Enterprise portal: Use the webgisdr utility to back up your deployment. Back up the arcgisportal content directory folder, and any extensions you've added for Dashboards and Web AppBuilder. Additionally, back up the config.js file if you've configured advanced portal options by modifying the properties in the file. You can use the backed-up file as a reference to customize your portal's behavior through the ArcGIS Portal Directory (Sharing API) after upgrade.
- For ArcGIS Server: Use the backup utility to back up your server site configuration.
- For ArcGIS Data Store: Run the backupdatastore utility to create a full backup of each of your data stores.
- Perform the upgrade steps for each ArcGIS Enterprise software component in the following order:
- Upgrade Portal for ArcGIS.
Note:
If your organization requires the complete set of 3D symbology in Scene Viewer, install the Web Styles setup on both Portal for ArcGIS machines.
- Upgrade ArcGIS Web Adaptor (for Portal) for IIS or Java (Windows).
- Upgrade the ArcGIS Server site serving as the portal's hosting server.
- Upgrade ArcGIS Web Adaptor (for Server) for IIS or Java (Windows).
- Upgrade ArcGIS Data Store.
- Upgrade any additional ArcGIS Server sites.
Note:
You don't need to upgrade ArcGIS Pro at the same time as ArcGIS Enterprise.
Tip:
It is recommended that you use the serverScan.py and portalScan.py scripts to review for security best practices with your ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Enterprise portal following the upgrade.
- Upgrade Portal for ArcGIS.
- Review Ports used by base ArcGIS Enterprise components and verify that all necessary ports have been opened to ensure your upgraded deployment performs properly.
For example, to use webhooks, ports 45671 and 45672 must be open on any relational data store machines to allow for communication with ArcGIS Server. If you previously had all ports closed, these will need to be opened in your upgraded environment.
