After working with imagery or video and analyzing areas of interest, you can export an area of interest and view for use in briefings, reports, and presentations.
Use the Analysis Report tool
Generate a report to disseminate key information about a specific area of interest through a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation. The Analysis Report tool allows you to define an area of interest and add any comments from your analysis. You can create a report from the Map Panel or Focus Panel.
Note:
If you choose to export the Focus Panel, the full metadata of the image will be included in the notes section of the slide. Reports can only be created from the Map Panel if a video layer or oriented imagery layer is being used.
To create a report, complete the following steps:
- Click the Tools menu in the canvas.
- In the Export Tools list, click Analysis Report.
Optionally, click Upload Report to upload an existing Excalibur Report to your portal account.
- Click Draw area to draw your area of interest in the Map Panel or Focus Panel.
Once enabled, you can click Cancel to cancel your drawing. Once you draw an area of interest, you will see a preview of your area of interest and can click Redraw to redraw your area.
- Fill in the following information:
- Report Title
- Analyst Comments
- Report Filename (required)
You also have additional report options to export a report in dark mode and include a title slide. Including a title slide is turned on by default.
- Click Create Report.
The presentation file is available in your browser's default download location, and the Upload Report option appears.
Note:
You have the option of uploading a report to your portal account. The report will upload to different folders depending on the workflow. If you are working in the canvas view through an ad-hoc workflow, the report is saved in your My Content folder. If you create a report within an existing Excalibur project, the report is saved to your Excalibur project folder.
- Click the Upload button or drag a file to the area.
Alternatively, you can click Skip Upload to skip the upload and continue.
A notification appears in the App Notices center stating the report was uploaded and saved to your account as a new item.
The tool automatically resets, and you can then view more details on the report by accessing it through the App Notices center in the canvas.
Screenshot tool
The Screenshot tool allows you to take a screenshot of an area of interest and view it in a new tab or save it to a location of your choosing. You can create a report from the Map Panel or Focus Panel. Screenshots can only be created from the Map Panel if a video layer or oriented imagery layer is being used.
You can export an image by choosing one of the following:
- View—Opens your defined area of interest as a .png file in a new browser tab.
- Download—Downloads your defined area of interest as a .png file to your computer.
Use the View option
Use the View option to open the resulting simple .png image in a new browser tab. To do this, complete the following steps:
- Click the Tools menu in the canvas view.
- In the Export Tools list, click Screenshot.
- Click Draw Area to draw your area of interest and to see a preview of your area.
- Optionally, once enabled, click Cancel to cancel the drawing. Once an area of interest is drawn, click Redraw to redraw the area.
Note:
By default, the screenshot includes any markups, measurements, and observations that intersect with the area of interest drawn. You can turn off the visibility of these layers in the Layers List to only capture a screenshot of the area of interest. - Select View.
- Click Submit.
A new browser tab opens with the .png image.
Use the Download option
Use the Download option to download a simple .png image of the drawn area. This is useful for briefings and presentations. To do this, complete the following steps:
- Click the Tools menu in the canvas view.
- In the Export Tools list, click Screenshot.
- Click Draw Area to draw an area of interest and to see a preview of the area.
Once enabled, you can click Cancel to cancel your drawing. Once you draw an area of interest, you can click Redraw to redraw your area.
Note:
By default, the screenshot will include any markups, measurements, and observations that intersect with the area of interest you draw. You can turn off the visibility of these layers in the Layers List to only capture a screenshot of the area of interest.
- Select Download.
- Provide a name for the saved file.
- Click Submit.

Download Image tool
Export an image by choosing to view an image snapshot, save an image snapshot, or download the full-resolution image and its supported files using the Download Image tool. The view image snapshot option opens your defined area of interest as a .jpeg file in a new browser tab. The save image snapshot option downloads the .jpeg file and is recommended for presentations and briefings. The download source imagery option downloads the full image and its supported files and is recommended for use in mapping applications. You can export an image from the map focus panel or image focus view. This tool is only available if an ArcGIS imagery layer is in use as the connected analysis layer.
You can export an image by choosing one of the following:
Use the View Image Snapshot option
Use the View Image Snapshot option to chip the drawn area and open the resulting simple .jpeg image in a new browser tab. To export an image, complete the following steps:
- Click the Tools menu in the canvas.
- In the Export Tools list, click Download Image.
- Click Draw Area of Interest to draw an area.
Once enabled, you can click Reset to cancel a drawing.
- Select View Image Snapshot.
- Click Export Imagery.
A new browser tab opens with the .jpeg image.
Use the Save Image Snapshot option
Use the Save Image Snapshot option to chip and download a simple .jpeg image of the drawn area. This is useful for briefings and presentations. To export an image, complete the following steps:
- Click the Tools menu in the canvas.
- In the Export Tools list, click Download Image.
- Click Draw Area of Interest to draw an area.
Once enabled, you can click Reset to cancel your drawing.
- Select Save Image Snapshot.
- Provide a name for the saved file.
- Click Export Imagery.
The file is available in the browser’s default download location.
Use the Download Source Imagery option
Use the Download Source Imagery option to select the imagery files that intersect with the drawn area of interest. Options to download imagery data sets and complementary files will be provided.
- Click the Tools menu in the canvas.
- In the Export Tools list, click Download Image.
- Click Draw Area of Interest to draw the area.
Once enabled, you can click Reset to cancel the drawing.
- Select Download Source Imagery.
Note:
The Download Source Imagery option is only available if the image service has download capabilities enabled. - Click Export Imagery. Click Previous to return to the previous step.
- Select an intersecting imagery item to get a list of downloadable files.
- Click View File List.
- Select each file part of the source imagery data set to download. Click Select All to select all files in the source imagery data set.
- Click Download.
A dialog box appears to confirm your actions.
- Click Download. Click Cancel to go back to the file selection.
Video Frame
The Video Frame tool allows you to take a snapshot of the current frame being played in your video in the Focus Panel an either view that snapshot orthorectified in the Map Panel or can be downloaded it as a .jpeg file. This tool is only available if a video player is in use as the connected analysis layer.
View the video frame on the map
To view the captured video frame in the Map Panel, compete the following steps:
- Click the Tools menu in the canvas view.
- In the Export Tools list, click Video Frame.
- Click Capture to capture the current video frame that is being displayed.
Note:
A preview of the frame appears. You can click New Capture to capture a different frame.
- Ensure the View on map option is selected.
- Click Submit.
Note:
The captured video frame is added to the map.
- Zoom to the video frame by completing the following steps:
- Click Layers List at the top of the canvas.
- Click Actions next to the Captured Video Frames layer.
- Click Zoom To.
- Optionally, click Hide Layer to hide the frame, or change the transparency slider.
Download the video frame
To download the captured video frame, complete the following steps:
- Click Tools in the canvas view.
- Click Video Frame in the Export Tools list.
- Click Capture to capture the current video frame that is displayed.
A preview of the frame appears. You can click New Capture to capture a different frame.
- Ensure Download is checked.
- Type a unique file name.
- Click Submit
The file is available in the browser's default download location, and the Upload Video Frame option appears.
You can upload a snapshot of a video frame to your portal account. The video frame uploads to different folders depending on the workflow. If you are working in the Canvas view through an ad-hoc workflow, the video frame is saved in your My Content folder. If you capture a video frame within an existing Excalibur project, the video frame is saved to your Excalibur project folder.
- Click Upload, or drag a file to the area. Alternatively, click Skip Upload to skip the upload and continue.
A notification appears in the App Notices center stating the video frame was uploaded and saved to your online account as a new item.
Attachment Report tool
The Attachment Report tool allows you to quickly create and configure a report that highlights the attachments available on the project observation layers. This report provides a simple and immersive experience for sharing your analysis with others.
To create an attachment report, complete the following steps:
- Click Tools in the canvas view.
- Click Attachment Report in the Export Tools list.
- Type a Report Title.
- Optionally, add Tags.
- Select Folder to choose a folder to publish the report. The project folder is selected by default.
- Select configuration options as needed: layout style, theme, and observations with attachments.
- Click Create Report.
The report is published to your portal account in the folder selected during configuration. It is also added within Project Details on the Products tab.
- Choose the sharing level for this report and click Update Sharing if any changes are made.
- Click View Report.
The report opens in a new tab as an Attachment Viewer web app where you can further analyze the attachments on the observation layers in your project.
