AUTHOR_STATEMENT: Original geological survey at 1:10 560 scale by J.K. Allan, D. Haldane and J. Phemister (1929–34). Published at 1:63 360 scale as parts of Northern Shetland, Western Shetland and Central Shetland Special Sheets, 1968, 1971 and 1981 respectively. This compilation by D. Gould is largely based on surveys at 1:10 560 scale by D. Flinn, I.R. Pringle and T. Robinson (University of Liverpool, 1952–1983), with re-interpretation of most of the remaining area by D. Flinn. The area west of the Melby Fault is based on the original survey with additional information from Finlay (1930) and Stephenson (1999). Some information from Phemister (1978a) was used in the compilation of the Northmaven Pluton. Superficial Deposits taken from published 1:63 360 Special Sheets Northern, Western and Central Shetland (1968, 1971 and 1982).
