AUTHOR_STATEMENT: Original geological survey at 1:63 360 scale by H.W. Bristow, published partly on Old Series sheets 17 and 18, respectively in 1850 and 1855. Some revisions were made to these maps in 1871 by H.W. Bristow, H.B. Woodward and W.A.E Ussher and the maps were re-issued in 1875. Partly resurveyed on the 1:10 560 scale by A. Strahan, C. Reid and A.J. Jukes-Browne, L.W. Hinxman, W. Whitaker and E.E.L. Dixon between 1890 and 1901. Resurvey of the whole sheet between 1931 and 1936 by F.B.A. Welch, J.A. Robbie, W. Lloyd and S. Buchan. The 1:63 360 scale map was published in 1940, and reprinted with minor amendments in 1962. Reconstituted from the 1:63 360 scale without geological revision and reprinted on 1st series 1:50 000 base in 1977. Much of the White Chalk Subgroup resurveyed, and the boundaries of the Kellaways Formation and the Peterborough Member of the Oxford Clay, Purbeck Group formations and members, some Superficial and Artificial deposits added by C.R. Bristow in 1999-2000. Offshore geology by C.D.R. Evans and N.J.P. Smith. Interpretation of the structure and of the concealed formations in the cross sections by D J Evans. P.J. Strange, Regional Geologist.
