AUTHOR_STATEMENT: Original geological survey at 1:10 560 scale by W.T. Aveline, J.R. Dakyns, W.H. Dalton, J.G. Goodchild, E.J. Hebert, T. McK. Hughes, G.R. Lightfoot, R. Russell, R.H. Tiddeman, and J.C. Ward published in 1893. Partially resurveyed at 1:10 560 scale by I.C. Burgess and A.J. Wadge in 1965-6. Resurveyed at 1:10 000 scale by M. McCormac, R.A. Hughes, D.G. Woodhall, B. Beddoe-Stephens, D. Millward, P. Stone and S.C. Loughlin in 1994-2000; by A.M. Bell under a BGS contract in 1995-6. Additional information on the Alston Formation from C.R. Rowley (formerly of Portsmouth University).
