Original geological survey on the 1:10 560 scale by A. Strahan between 1889 and 1890. A small tract in the north and north-west resurveyed by J.A. Robbie and F.B.A. Welch in 1935-36; the eastern tract resurveyed by W.J. Arkell in 1936-37 and the Chaldon Pericline resurveyed by A.H. Taitt in 1937. Reprinted without geological revision at the 1:50 000 scale in 1974, and reconstituted on to 7th Series 1:50 000 base in 1974 (Sheet 342); Sheet 341 combined with Sheet 342 and reconstituted on to 1st Series 1:50 000 base in 1976. Solid and Drift Geology. 1:50 000. (Keyworth, Nottingham: British Geological Survey) Resurveyed at the 1:10 000 scale by C.M. Barton, A.J. Newell, R.K. Westhead, C.R. Bristow and E.C. Freshney between 1995 and 1996. I.R. Basham and P.J. Strange, Regional Geologists. Marine geology by A. Crosby and C.D.R. Evans, based on BGS and University College London surveys conducted 1960-79 and data provided by the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office. Seismic interpretation by D.J. Evans and G.A. Kirby.
