General questions

How do I upgrade my LRS when moving to a newer version of Roads and Highways?

View the LRS hierarchy from the Location Referencing tab in the Contents pane or from the geodatabase node in the Catalog pane. If the LRS needs an upgrade, the (Upgrade) text appears next to it in the LRS hierarchy. Run the Modify LRS tool to upgrade the LRS. The operation can take several minutes. Find the version of the LRS Dataset to verify that the LRS has been upgraded.

What are the minimum system requirements for Roads and Highways?

The system requirements for Roads and Highways include the system requirements for ArcGIS Server; however, Roads and Highways is only supported on Windows Server platforms (not Linux or UNIX).

The memory (RAM), disk space, and processor power need to be adjusted based on the data volumes being worked with. In addition, the number of machines in the enterprise implementation need to be scaled to handle the number of concurrent requests being requested from the deployment.

When working with linear referencing data in Roads and Highways, it is recommended that you at least double the minimum RAM requirements specified by ArcGIS Server. This allows for some of the memory requirements needed by the ArcGIS event feature layer if you are publishing external event tables in your map services.

Is it possible to access the Roads and Highways geoprocessing tools on ArcGIS Server?

Yes. The Location Referencing toolbox automatically deploys with ArcGIS Server with most of the tools found in ArcGIS Pro. Refer to the list of tools that deploy with ArcGIS Server. You can also continue to publish geoprocessing tools as a geoprocessing service through ArcGIS Pro.

Do I need the Advanced Editing user type extension to use Roads and Highways with the Version Management capability?

No, the Location Referencing Server license allows publishing services that use the Version Management and Linear Referencing capabilities.

Experience Builder questions

How do I deploy Location Referencing widgets in Experience Builder?

The Location Referencing widgets in Experience Builder are available in the Location Referencing section of widgets in Experience Builder. You can add them to new or existing experiences like you would any other Experience Builder widget.

Do I have to use one of the LRS templates to deploy an app with Location Referencing widgets?

No, you can use one of the LRS templates or any of the other templates in Experience Builder when building your experiences. The advantage of using the LRS templates is that they include the Location Referencing widgets in the experience out of the box and do not require a high level of configuration.

Can I do more than event editing using the Location Referencing widgets?

Yes, in addition to the LRS event editing widgets, Experience Builder includes widgets for searching and identifying the LRS and dynamic segmentation of LRS data (in both table view and straight-line diagram view).

Do the Location Referencing widgets work with ArcGIS Online?

No. At this time, the Location Referencing widgets only work with web maps shared to ArcGIS Enterprise. If your web map comes from ArcGIS Online, the widgets will not be available for configuration.
